Tessuti Awards 2010
Linen and Lace, by Megan Caldersmith
About my Linen and Lace
- Pattern Used: A commercial pattern
- Fabrics Used: Hanky white Enzyme washed linen and medium white enzyme washed linen
- Time To Create: 8 hours
- Dress Influenced By: I was really inspired by modern architecture for this dress. I pleated the linen and made different width panels to make the detailing asymetrical and a little bit quirky
- Additional Information: I had fun and I can't wait for the sun to shine to wear it! P.S Thank you Christy Radford for the photography
About Me
- Name: Megan Caldersmith
- State: SA
- Sewing Since: Since I was 4
- My Experience: My grandmother and mother sewed and from an early age I was interested in fabric, craft and sewing. I started making clothes for my Barbies and drove my mother mad with my "open" style of sewing, that is poor finishing and a crazy mix of fabrics and materials! After starting a bachelor of Fine arts I realised that I really wanted to do fashion design and studied at Marleston College of Tafe in S.A. I worked in the industry for a few years before buying "Betrothed bridal and evening wear" with Nikki Atkinson where we spent 10 fantastic years designing and making beautiful bespoke one off pieces in our salon on Kensington Road. After having the first of my 3 children, it was a change of place and pace! I now live in Penola SA and work part time for myself designing and making mostly Bridal and evening wear. I feel so lucky to have a skill that I am passionate about and can use anywhere.
- My Sewing Goals: To sew for as long as I love it and I just keep loving it more and more. I sew for a living(bridal and evening wear mainly) and I sew for pleasure (my clothes and my childrens clothes) and I sew to be artistic (textile art)
- Additional Information: Textile art, emerging designers, beautiful fabrics, texture, colour, nature, my family, sunshine, good food and wine, happiness. Living life to the fullest and fulfilling your soul!
