Linen and Lace, by Katherine McCourt

About my Linen and Lace

  • Pattern Used: My own design
  • Fabrics Used: 100% Linen Cream Zin and old lace doilies.
  • Time To Create: 3 days
  • Dress Influenced By: This dress was particularly influenced by the beautiful garments of the edwardian period. I endeavoured to capture the graceful, elegant elements of this period in a design appropriate for the coming summer season.
  • Additional Information: Previous to making this dress I had not worked with linen a great deal but felt the weight and hand of the fabric added a luxuriousness to the garment. It feels soft and cool against the skin helping me achieve my aim of making a dress which is a delight to wear. Can't wait to wear it to a party on a hot summer's day.

About Me

  • Name: Katherine McCourt
  • State: NSW
  • Sewing Since: I was little
  • My Experience: I've always loved making things, particularly clothes. Mum taught me the basics of sewing and i've been learning by experimentation ever since. Frustrated by the limiting nature of commercial dress patterns and also driven by the desire to create something fun and original I taught myself to make my own pattern. Having finished Yr 12 I considered studying fashion but instead chose Architecture, determined to keep sewing for enjoyment's sake.
  • My Sewing Goals: To continue sewing for the love of it, and to bless other people with what I make.
  • Additional Information: Passionate about making beautiful garments that are enjoyable and fun to wear, the kind of dresses that make you feel a little bit special.
