About My Dress

daisy embroidery (white) Med Linen (cream)

Time To Create:
2 weeks

Dress Influenced By:
Inspired by the nature of a butterfly. This design can be wrapped like a cocoon and also let loose and spread open like butterflies’ wings. Designed especially for summer daywear, something specifically non clingy and free feeling.

Additional Information:
Crystal like buttons for closure along back neckline.
Crystal like buttons on left and right side of back wings for design change (button loops on inside of dress).
Hand embellished white glass beads along stitching edges neckline, centre front and centre back.

I was 15

My Experience:
I first learnt to sew at the age of 15. I always wanted to learn and my grandmother had a sewing machine but couldn't see anymore to be able to teach me how to use it. So I applied for the VET course in sewing. I completed all the VET certificates in sewing construction and pattern making. I continued studying fashion for 2 years after completing high school. During these 2 years I learnt shoe making, pattern drafting (made to measure), costume design and construction, pattern manipulation and much more. I have always been competitive. As a child I was a slow learner and was kept down a grade my parents thought I would struggle in high school and fall into bad crowds. I did whatever I could to prove to them that I was different and I’m pretty sure I achieved that goal once I started entering fashion competitions and constructed some great masterpieces. During 2009 I completed a range of handmade corsets and took a big step to move to Europe for a year. I took my range with me to exhibit and have been in a small fashion show in Thessaloniki and also exhibited my corsets in a handmade market full of artistic people! Here I met some other fantastic designers and hair dressers I did some volunteer work for a fashion shoot, where I did body artwork to match with the accessories designs.

My Sewing Goals:
I am hoping for my corsets to sell on my etsy website account. www.etsy.com/garifalo My future holds many goals within the fashion field! I hope to register a technical shoe invention and hopefully find sponsors to help me get it in the market. I am crazy about making NEW designs that can be used in different ways so that people can love their garments or shoes for more than just one night or a week. I am a street artist (body art statue) for Hobby! Very passionate about designing one off masterpieces and technical construction designing for fashion and shoes. Inventing creative pieces is something that really gets me working all night! As long as I have good music! I am passionate about travelling and finding vintage sewing machines and cobbler’s tools.
