My own design
Fabrics Used:
Tessuti Oat ZIn Linen & Tussuti Lace Trim
Time To Create:
Around 15 hours
Dress Influenced By:
1960's designer John Bates was a key influence for this dress. Bold shapes and silhouettes are seen in all of his work. His designs are mostly simple yet extremely effective. I wanted to take these same design principles and apply them to my dress.
The 60s has been revisited by many designers in recent catwalk shows. Shift dresses can be seen at Bally & Yves Saint Laurent while Prada channels the dolly bird look. Other designers like Michael Kors and Burberry demonstrate the 60's look via coats and capes.
The dress uses tradition princess seam lines with flare added into each seam at the hem. The neckline exposes the shoulders and draws the eye into the neckband which showcases the beautiful trim which has been dyed to match the fabric. The centre of the dress displays a quilted panel which is attached at the neckline. The shape of this piece is accentuated by topstitching.
