Tessuti Awards 2010
Linen and Lace, by tony steindl
About my Linen and Lace
- Pattern Used: My own design
- Fabrics Used: tessuti linen, and tessuti french cotton lace.
- Time To Create: on and off for 3 weeks
- Dress Influenced By: I wanted to include the states in my thought pattern when designing this dress. My inspiration was the American Plains. Little house on the Prairie with a modern slant. Low fitted dresses with layers of flirtation while keeping a little purity. Craft and making everything from scratch was a must. So I researched the many techniques of crochet, lace, knitting and quilting to create a weaving style to suit the dress. So hundreds of linen strips were cut on the bias and bagged out to create the look of thread. I would weave the pattern piece which was nailing to a board. I wanted the weaving to represent a look of crochet and linen lace and mixing it with panels of lace gave it a look of vintage. Each panels is bound by brick a brack for a pretty trim edge. The fit was really important as the linen weave would have to mould to the body.
- Additional Information: The dress is fully bias lined out of linen. Panels are hand woven by tessuti Hanky linen. Pearl buttons down front. Two types of french cotton lace in the lace layered skirt. Brick a Brack around all pattern pieces. Sleeves are woven by hand together like a shoe lace. Also big thanks for my wife being a beautiful model and for her support... And my son for being a good boy while dad was weaving.
