Linen and Lace, by Alexandra Moussawer

Pattern Used: My own design
Fabrics Used: White Enzyme Washed linen, In The Mix linen, Alabaster Floral Lace, Flower Trim, Spot Tulle
Time To Create: 72 hrs
Dress Influenced By: Influenced by Elie Saab 2011 collection, where lots of texture and fabric manipulation is used. Also inspired by 1950's fashion of full skirts and small waistlines.
Additional Information: I wanted my design to have a feminin, romantic feel and kept to a classic boat neckline, but shortened the hemline and added a tulle underlay for fullness. For the base of the dress, I used the white enzyme washed linen and then hand cut the outline of the floral lace. I cut the same silhouette out of the In the Mix linen and mounted the lace on top, centering it with a peice of the flower trim. To create a textured look, I sewed these onto the base of the dress so that it completely covered the front and back of the top half of the garment and ended just under the waistline.

My Experience: My mother was a seamstress, so I began sewing from a very young age. Shortly after highschool, I completed a course Cert IV in Clothing Production, and then went on to study Fashion Design. I now study Patternmaking at the Academy of Dressmakers, Westmead NSW and also work in Fashion Production for an established womanswear label. I create bridesmaid dresses and evening gowns too, and every free moment I have is spent sewing!
My Sewing Goals: I hope to have my own label one day, so that I can continue to create beautiful clothes for woman.
Additional Information: I love sewing, patternmaking, fashion of course, music, movies, food, books and travel.
