About My Dress

Pattern Used:
A commercial pattern

Fabrics Used:
A Japanese 100% Cotton Navy Chambray with Printed White Spot and a blue Cotton/Silk lining.

Time To Create:
Just over a month (off and on in my spare time)

Dress Influenced By:
The 60s. Paris. Summer. Tailored. Casual elegance. And of course my beloved retro sewing machine.

Additional Information:
I modified a Vogue Pattern by changing the straps of the dress from either vertical straps or a halter to a V shape design. In addition I added lining to the fitted skirt and included an invisible zipper instead of a regular one.

One challenging part of this dress other than the challenge of "neatly" adding in the skirt lining without a pattern, was the inclusion of boning in the bodice. I am really happy with how the dress fits and moves with me as I walk or sit. Also, the lining sits perfectly without riding up or sliding around.

I didn't know about this competition until I went in to Tessuti to buy my fabric. I had wanted to make a blue and white spotted fitted dress for a while. Fortunately I was a size 10!
