About my Little Black Dress
- Pattern Used: My own design
- Fabrics Used: Silk organza, Viscose/ploy herringbone and silk lining
- Time To Create: On and off for one week
- Dress Influenced By: Before designing this garment I focused on two aspects, the theme I will choose to convey and what a little black dress means to me. These worked hand in hand, I wanted it to look elegant, classy and most of all timeless. I chose the theme edge of desire. This kind of dress celebrates a woman's silhouette, empowering her, making her feel confident and even a little sexy.
- Additional Information: With all garments i create i like the client to feel she can have the versatility to wear it in various ways. for this particular garment the peplum is detachable and can be worn as an exaggerated collar or simply without it at all.
About Me
- Name: Melanie Steiszkal
- State: VIC
- Sewing Since: 10 years old
- My Experience: From a very young age I was always fascinated by sewing, and would always sneak on the sewing machine when mum wasn't watching. Since then my fascination turned into passion. I studied textiles at high school for three years and now in my second year of completing my diploma at Kangan Batman in Richmond.
- My Sewing Goals: In the short term, I want to focus on my course and continue to learn and evolve as a designer, pattern maker and seamstress so that I'll be able to create garments that are visually amusing for the eye. In the not so distant future i hope to one day establish a label that really displays my aesthetic as a designer.
- Additional Information: I just want to quickly say, that I'm very grateful that there are competitions like this that give young designers the opportunity to showcase our designs!!!!
